Discovery of Cuba
Christopher Columbus founded Cuba in 1492, on his voyage to America. However, the Ciboney and Taino people, hunter gatherers and farmers, inhabited Cuba centuries before the official discovery.
Government and Key Events
On January 1st, 1959, when the dictator Fulgencio Batista fled Cuba, Fidel Castro's rebels rose to power, and he became the new dictator. On April 16th, 1961, Fidel Castro declared Cuba a socialist state, which is a type of government that lets people take more ownership and have more control. During his nearly 50-year term, Americans were not allowed to enter Cuba, unless they were studying the culture, visiting family etc...
Since Obama was elected, Cuba and America have had more association with each other. Now, it is much easier for U.S. Citizens to travel to Cuba, and while there are a few restrictions, there aren't as many as there used to be. Cuba is a unitary state, which is one that possesses great power, and the central government is governed as an independent body.

Currency
The Cuban currency is Cuban pesos and convertible pesos. Workers normally receive a portion of their income in convertible pesos, and then the rest in Cuban pesos. Convertible pesos are used by tourists, and cannot be brought outside of Cuba, Cuban pesos can only be used by Cuban citizens.
Cuban Flag
The Cuban flag consists of white and blue lines and a red sideways triangle with a white star inside of it. The blue stripes symbolize the three divisions of the island, the white stripes symbolize the idea of independence. The red triangle represents the blood that was shed in the island's fight for independence, and the star portrays the people's absolute freedom. Below is a photo:
